- How do I get started?
Either double-click on one of the planet icons or one of the folders. Inside the folders are links to CD programs and user guides. - How do I start a CD?
Choose a folder > Open it. Guides for CDs are in the folders too. - What if I need help with the CD?
If you need help with the CD, the user guide will always be available in the Start bar at the bottom of the desktop (see desktop image above). You will see at least one other window listed; open them until you see the guide. - Can I print?
Yes, you can print from these workstations. The closest printer is to your left along the wall across from the Business and Government Information Reference Desk. There are detailed instructions on how to use the networked printers posted next to each printer. - Can I save my work on a disk?
You can save your work to to the following drives and directories:
- USB drive (E:\) USB disks are sold at the University Bookstore.
- CD/DVD drive (D:\) CD-RW/DVD-RW disks are sold at the University Bookstore.
- Floppy disk drive (A:\) Floppy disks are sold at the Copy Center for $1 each.
- "Save" directory (C:\temp) for files to be sent by FTP or email.
- Note 1: you can compress large saved files for faster FTP or to make them fit your disk. See Compressing Files for details.
- Note 2: Depending on the size of the file and your email provider's limits on attachment sizes you may be able to email files to yourself.
- Can I send my saved files electronically?
Yes. See above. - My file is too large for my disk and/or my allowed server space; is there anything I can do?
Yes, you can compress your file. See Compressing Files for details. - Can I look up a book from these workstations?
Yes. Click on the University Libraries logo from any web page and a MNCAT search box will be on the Libraries' home page. - Can I use the web on these workstations?
Yes, but most *.com sites have been blocked. Exceptions are made for University Libraries licensed resources. Google Scholar is also available, but main Google is not.
