Please share this announcement with all staff who might be interested.

The Eleventh Annual Government Publications Information Forum has a particularly rich agenda. A special addition this year will be presentations by GPO staff member Cynthia Etkin, who will be in Minnesota to visit seven of the depository libraries who submitted Self-Studies last fall. As a former depository librarian who now visits depositories all over the country as a GPO inspector, Cindy will add a national perspective to our gathering. This event is the one time in the year for depository library staff in the region to get together, and as usual a very full program is being planned.

The agenda indicates the variety of information which will be covered. Just in time, we will be educated about the new North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) by a team from the University of Minnesota--Duluth. The current Documents Librarian, Kathryn Fuller, will be joined by Jim Vileta, former UMD Documents Librarian and now the UMD Business Librarian. Since NAICS will replace the familiar SIC classification for statistics, including the 1997 Economic Census, this program is especially timely.

All depository librarians are urged to prepare to join the discussion of user and librarian training for government resources. Kicking off this program will be Susan Sackett, of the MINITEX Reference staff, who has been conducting such successful GPO Access training. She will share hints and helps for doing GPO Access training. We hope others will then share experiences in planning and carrying out training for other staff members or end users. As usual, a panel of those who are attending the Federal Depository Library Conference will share the best of the programs from that conference, and a packet of handouts from Washington will be available for everyone.

In a break from tradition, this announcement does not include a list of recommended accommodations. Instead, you are referred to the excellent Mankato web page which lists many, with information on amenities and prices. Please make your own arrangements promptly to assure a space. Since meeting space could not be located in any depository libraries, we are being hosted by the South Central Technical College in North Mankato, just across the river from Mankato. It has a fine conference center and a private dining room for us to have lunch together. Local arrangements are being handled by Mark McCullough of Mankato State University at (507) 389-5154 or e-mail: mark.mccullough@mankato.msus.edu.

Please bring along copies of any handouts, training materials, and publicity pieces you have developed, to share with your colleagues. If you would like handouts copied for you, please mail one copy to Julie Wallace at the Regional by April 28.
