Public Access to Government Information
Tena Haraldson is Associated Press Chief of Bureau for North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. She is a 1976 graduate of South Dakota State University and has worked for the AP for 28 years. She is a founding member of South Dakotans for Open Government and is a member of the National Freedom of Information Coalition. She serves on the Attorney General's Government Openness Task Force.
Mark Millage is the news director at KELO-TV. He is very active in the FOI field and is a former national president of the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Emmys. Mark is a member of South Dakotans for Open Government (SDOG) and has worked with the Attorney General on government openness issues.
Chuck Baldwin is the editorial page editor at the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. He is a founding member of South Dakotans for Open Government and took a leading role in Sunshine Week activities this year. Sunshine Week is a nationwide observance to raise public awareness of the importance of full citizen access to government actions and records.
Delivering Health, Education & Trade Information to the Public: Government Documents InstructionKay Christensen and Lisa Brunick from Augustana College will share how they’ve used Census 2000 data with Nursing and Education classes. Helen Burke and Carrie Brunsberg, Minneapolis Public Library, developed a class on STAT-USA/USA Trade Online and will talk about their experience instructing public library patrons.
Dr. Darrell Napton is a Professor of Geography at South Dakota State University in Brooking, SD. He is presently collaborating with the EROS Data Center on the project Land Cover Trends: Rates, Causes, and Consequences of Late-Twentieth Century U.S. Land Cover Change.
LaVera Rose is a Rosebud Tribal member from the St. Francis Community. She has a BS in Political Science from Black Hills State, an MA in History from Northern Arizona University, and an MLIS from the U of WI-Milwaukee. She worked at the SD State Archives for 15 years before becoming the Digital Librarian for the SD State Library in April of 2004. She was the project director of the Indian Archives project for about five years while at the Archives. She has published two children's books and numerous articles for various genealogy, history and archival publications. In 2002 LaVera was awarded an ALA Spectrum Initiative Scholarship.
